French terry has a smooth face and an unbrushed looped back. It gives a sweatshirt structure and drape without the warmth and surface fuzz of brushed fleece, which is why it dominates mid weight streetwear and transitional layers.
Weight is the main specification decision. Light terry drapes and suits fashion silhouettes, heavy terry holds a boxy shape and suits premium streetwear where the garment is expected to stand away from the body.
